I love symbols, like the petroglyphs you can see in many of my works. That’s why I was fascinated the first time I saw a Runes’ Box; its ancient tradition and symbols captured me with their meaning, history and mystery behind them.

This is a set consisting of a rectangular clay box with a lid depicting two horse heads facing each other sculpted on stone made by carving out a thick clay slab (2 3/14″ H x 6 1/4″ W x 4 3/8″ D). There are 25 clay stones (1 1/2″ L x 3/4″ W approx.), one blank and 24 with a different rune symbol on each; a satin black bag made by myself (6″ L x 6″ W) , and a rectangular fabric I specially prepared to place the runes while reading them.

The box and all the small stones have a very smooth texture achieved by burnishing them out with a pebble. The whole set has an earthy color and beautiful, random smoky patterns given by the use of a pit fire. The box has a polished, satin finish obtained with a layer of wax buffed out with a soft fabric.
